CLAUDINE BONNER, PhD - Symposium Organizer
Dr. Claudine Bonner is an Assistant Professor in both the Sociology and Women’s and Gender Studies Departments. Her research seeks to address narratives of African Diaspora communities in Canada, and in her current work, she focuses on African Nova Scotian narratives and the sociohistorical contexts which inform them. Dr. Bonner received a SSHRC Institutional Connections Grant in 2016 in collaboration with Drs. Stephen Henderson and Stephen Ahern to plan and conduct this symposium which honours Acadia graduate Reverend William A. White and the No. 2 Construction Battalion. Among other projects, she is currently looking at the ways the families of African Canadian men experienced the years of the First World War while their husbands and fathers were deployed overseas, exploring notions of race, community, identity and nation.
